Most Famous Socks of All Time!

Yep, that's right - most famous SOCKS of all time. Bet you didn't think a little, ol' pair of socks could get so much recognition on their own, huh? But before you go underestimating the power of a fashion staple, check out these 4 famous socks!

Curt Schilling's Bloody Sock Okay, so maybe it's a tad bit on the gross (and unsanitary) side that this sock now resides in the Baseball Hall of Fame, but it's gotten quite the coverage in its short lifetime! After surgery to his ruptured tendon sheath in his right ankle, Schillings was expected to be on the disabled list for the rest of the season. Instead, doctors made a wall of stitches in his leg to stabilize the tendon, and Schillings went on to win Game 6 of the American League championship series and Game 2 of the 2004 World Series despite the blood seeping from his sock during the entire game. Lucky for him, his trusty sock kept him from bleeding into shock and helped to temporarily check his pain long enough for him to get the W!

Homey the Clown Played by Damon Wayans on "In Living Color," Homey the Clown was an ex-con who agreed to work as a clown as part of his parole agreement. But don't be fooled by his costume! Even though Homey looked the part, he lashed out at anyone who expected him to actually play the fun-loving, joking clown role - usually by hitting them on the head with a sock filled with tennis balls. "I don't think so! Homey don't play dat!"

Mick Foley's Mr. Socko Semi-retired professional wrestler Mick Foley AKA Mankind currently holds one of WWF's most impressive winning records. Despite his success in the ring, Mankind is better known for Mr. Socko, the sock puppet he slipped on his hand just before delivering the final blow to his opponents.

Socks Clinton AKA "First Cat" Okay, so Socks isn't an actual pair of socks - but it sure looks like he's wearing some! The Clinton's adopted Socks in 1991 after he won Chelsea Clinton over outside of her piano teacher's house in Little Rock, Arkansas. When Bill Clinton won the presidency, Socks accompanied the family to the White House, where he dutifully served 8 years as "First Cat." Socks made several public appearances during his reign and became quite the celebrity. A cartoon version of Socks even led visiting children on a tour of the White House during the Clinton administration. Socks is arguably the most beloved of all of the presidents' pets.

Not too shabby for a pair of undergarments, huh? So next time you think they're just another old pair of socks, just remember how important they actually are!
